Villa de Varda, of the Dolzan family, is an enthusiastic admirer of art and passionate about botanical and distillation. In memory of the extraordinary Mattioli and the Bishop, Martyr and Patron of the Diocese of Trento, San Vigilio, it has created a noble and unmistakable Amaro by infusing natural herbs, roots and flowers. Dubbed as Elixir Sancti Vigilii and it is distinguished by its label bearing the original and historic coat of arms of the Basilica.
The Cathedral of San Vigilio, in Trento, is an important and fascinating Roman-Gothic architectural complex that preserves and passes on Trentino’s culture and precious heritage of faith, history and art.
Entering the main door you can see the monument of Pietro Andrea Mattioli (1501-1577) who was a poet, writer and chief physician to Prince Bishop Bernardo Clesio. Mattioli was an eminent and talented botanist. Upon the sculptural work’s architrave is inscribed “No one more than you revealed directly the values of herbs, no one more than you were famous and superior in this art.”
We have combined juniper berries, cloves, gentian root and rhubarb, absinth, orange peels and much more to give light to a unique liqueur rich of tradition and with great digestive properties to perfectly end a lovely meal.
It is made from an ancient and exclusive family recipe. Its precious and countless properties and digestive qualities, are the result of a slow and careful infusion of juniper berries, cloves, chireta, gentian root and rhubarb, flowered absinthe, lemon balm leaves, bitter orange peel, quassia and many others. The skillful balance of mixtures, gives its extraordinary intense aroma with a unique and seductive flavour.
